HISTORY
An internationally recognized wine of excellence born from the roots of Umbria
WE HAVE BEEN PRODUCING WINE IN THE MONTEFALCO DOCG SINCE 1971.
Since then, our goal has remained unchanged: to achieve quality production through a meticulous approach that combines research and the experimentation of new agronomic and oenological techniques with respect for the culture and traditions of our territory.

THE ORIGINS
Our story begins in 1971, when Arnaldo Caprai - a successful Umbrian entrepreneur in the textile sector, later awarded the title of Cavaliere del Lavoro for Agricultural Merit in 2002 - purchased forty-two hectares in Montefalco, including four already planted with vines in the Val di Maggio estate, to fulfill his dream of running a farm dedicated to wine production. Determined to enhance the enormous potential of the native Sagrantino grape variety, he gradually annexed the finest adjacent lands. In 1986, the arrival of his son Marco at the helm of the company marked a turning point in the winemaking history of the region.

VISION
Marco’s vision led him to establish collaborations with both professionals and research institutes in agronomy and winemaking. Thanks to the results of years of work, in the early 1990s the Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG “25 Anni” captured the attention of critics worldwide, bringing the spotlight to an Italian winemaking region until then little known. Since then, Arnaldo Caprai, with its wines renowned for elegance, refinement, and longevity, has become synonymous with Italian excellence. Today, we manage 160 hectares of vineyards spread across all four cardinal points of the Montefalco DOCG area. Here, alongside the native Umbrian varieties Sagrantino and Grechetto, we cultivate other local and international grapes-including Sangiovese, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon-to produce wines of exceptional quality.
